LotD the revival.

So there's been a revival of the Powerhouse Luck of the Draw on facebook. I've submitted a couple doodles. So I've not completely been inactive artistically.

 I think the prompt for this one was character off-model but still recognizable.

This one was your worst fear done in a non-frightening way.. Something like that. I didn't finish this one but it's my baby destroying my collections.

Ahh. Sage she is adorable. I'm only sad because though we got this nice house, the commute to work really sucks. I have a couple hours in the morning with her, but she's mostly sleeping or I'm too busy getting ready to get to play with her. Then when I finally get home after an hour commute it's usually only and hour or at most two with her before she goes down for the night.

Alas. Weekends have become super precious now. I'll try and make more art when I can, I'm hoping once I settle into a groove at work I can do more on lunch breaks. Though it maybe more studies and stuff.

39 Weeks Pregnant!

So. Just some random crap I decided to doodle while trying to take my mind off these false contractions. Baby is due next week, but could arrive any day. Not knowing when she's going to make her appearance is so annoying!

Also worried I won't make any art for a while. Since I won't be drawing daily at work for a few months, I want to try and keep making stuff even if it's complete shite. But we've got a lot going on the baby and a new house. Which we close on next week as well. Then there's the packing, and moving, and unpacking. Craziness all around.

I'm actually really looking forward to doing crazy stuff like "sealing my grout" and "waterproofing my cedar fence!" But you know with the baby and all we'll see. I also want to keep making art. How do people manage all these things!

Sage Name Art

Sage's Baby Room Art! So I finally got some time to sit down and work on some art for the baby room. Even though we don't really have the nursery yet or the house. I just wanted to get some done before life gets even crazier. This is meant to be a set of 4, 8x10 panel prints, but here you see them all together.

Hopefully I'll still get to make some art. Sketches or studies at the very least. :)

Finished. Well finished with it anyways.

So talking to Sam about finishing this digital painting and he was like "whoa I never take that long of a break from something. I only allow myself X number of hours on a piece and if I don't get it done in that time I move on."

I'm going to try and work on setting time limits for myself because unfortunately I am really bad about putting things aside and starting on other things then flip flopping endlessly until either it gets dropped and never picked up again or I end up not touching it for months at a time. So. Just to wrap this one I gave myself only one night to finish it up. Well at least get it decent. So here it is. Officially moving to my completed folder and out of my life.

This was my first one using Sam's B&W technique and getting some feedback and pushing through the first painting... if when you look back at that old post I do have to say it's come a long way from there. So overall a good learning piece. Moving on now.

Sorry Vin, you never got to color. Maybe the next one.

But anyways. The looks like nothing changed. NO WAIT! I made a Holiday Card!  This is completely new! I don't think I've done one since... my first year out of college! The world IS changing! So sorry it's not a postcard that you can get in your mailbox. You'd probably just throw it away anyways. So here you go INTERNET JUNK MAIL!

Lunch Studies: Feet

So my office mate and I have started doing digital paint studies at lunch. It's only an hour every tuesdays & thursdays but its nice to actually allot some time to just painting.  And its much faster than setting up and tearing down to paint outside.

Well we started off with feet. I just picked a body part that I wanted to work more on. Anywho here are some of the sketches and paint studies we did this past month. Our next subject is comic book characters. I'm painting Psylocke, which is good because it's forcing me to work with stuff I'm not comfortable doing.

I rarely like a Psylocke I make, because well as a character I really like I don't ever feel she looks right and two. I suck at drawing asians, really asian looking asians at least. I'm horrible at it. So my goal is to make this chick look asian. I'll post up some stuff later. Again it's a bit slow going and with the holidays even more so. Anyways. FEET.

Space Chimp

Space Chimp was completed. Sorry that was probably like a month ago now.. I managed to finish Space Chimp, the four page short, which was originally scripted for 9 pages and cut down to 4 so other people could have space in our awesome art book. :)

I'm not super happy with it, and it getting cut down doesn't really help either. Story is truncated and sloppy, dialogue is poor. Unimaginative panel designs and layouts, and overall suckage. But there are other cool thing from other people in our book Powerlines: Vol 1. Where you can find this silly story in print form. Which makes it slightly better I guess.

Slowly but surely... now even slower...

So since working on this last time, I got a puppy. Unfortunately it's slow going as the puppy has been taking up a lot more of my free time. She's finally getting into a routine and I'm finding more time to do other stuff.

But we are putting together an artbook at the studio, and I've agreed to submit some art. So for the next month or so that's probably what I'll be focusing on. Anyways. Here's the progress on my other piece. To Be Continued....

Work in Progress

UNFINISHED! More Mistborn stuff... Vin saying hello to Straff Venture and his horse.. (though you can't really tell)

So with a lot of help from my awesome Art Director/co-worker, Sam Deats. I am trying to work more on my digital painting.  Which is what' I've been up to the last few days/weeks. Just started one in his sort of approach to digital painting... well his approach but my less than awesome style. I'm going to need to ask him for some advice on this one... Not sure whether any attempts to flesh out shit in the foreground (straff & horse) will just ruin everything...

Struggling a bit. This isn't even the first one I did. I started two others but they were just straight up shit and I hate them. Hahaha. Yeah I don't mind this one much. now I just have to figure out how to get past this part. One thing I don't do much of is complete works. This is usually the state in the piece where I go.. okay cool, done, and my artist ADD has me scribbling away on something else.

But I really need to push myself, beyond this point. I have to practice making shit complete! So I'm going to have to spend more time on this.. we'll see if it comes out better or worse... cross your fingers...

Panty Raid!

So was playing around with some designs for Vin, more specifically Vin in her undergarments. I got really excited to play around with some animation, and I've been kind of doing some rough storyboards/animatic for the awesome fight scene between Vin and Shan Elariel...

Which mostly takes place with Vin in her underwear. I couldn't decide what those undies would look like though. The book describes her as wearing a thin sleeveless top with shorts. So it's kind of vague but to be honest I imagined her in a corset (although I realize in the book she removes it when running)... I think it would be a little hard to remove a corset while running, unless it had those eyehooks, but then she's mistborn so she doesn't wear metal...

So yeah ignore the dress design, I'm not really sold on it at present, and color won't matter since I'm just playing around, probably won't go to cleanup on any of this....

Sheesh. Planning a fight scene between more than two people is super difficult too. I'm at the point where I need another establishing shot with multiple people and I'm a little stuck on how I want to handle it..  if you want to see what I have so far you can check it at my DeviantScrapbook.

I must apologize profusely it's in a very rough state,  and none of it is timed out properly, and there's not as many camera moves in that because I retardedly worked out on the main timeline.. as I get further I'll move them into symbols and mess around with the shots, and angles some more.

I haven't even gotten to the atium part. Good god that is going to be a nightmare.

My Mistborn: Final Empire Dream Casting

Okay in a complete waste of my time I have been doing a little Mistborn: The Final Empire dream casting. Started out as looking for image references before starting my art.. but morphed into me picking out most of the cast. Some of this is pieced together from other people's lists, and a lot of them I have more than one option because I can't decide..

Vin: My first pick might be Hailee Steinfeld of True Grit fame. Mostly because she's at the right age well she's 16 now but probably by the time the film came out would be about the right age, and she's an amazing young actress. Ellen Page is kind of too old but really has the look and build. So if we'd like to go with an older more experienced actress then I'd vote her.

Kelsier: Nikolaj makes a great Jamie Lannister, but honestly I think he would make one perfect Kelsier.

Lestibournes/Spook: Okay I saw Callan in I am Number Four. Which was HORRIBLE. I don't get what the craze over Alex Pettyfer is, that kid can't act. But Callan was really the only good thing in that film for me. I would love to see him in more and I think he would make a fantastic Spook.

Yeah I know I should be making art, but hey sometimes amazingly hot actresses and actors are just the best way to depict how I imagine characters. Whenever I try to draw them they just don't come out looking quite the way I want them to, you know?  These guys are kind of my guide.

Mistborn & ol'crap

Well I'm back. Went on a little vacation to my boyfriend's family cabin. Which was great because I got to burn through the first book of Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy. I really enjoyed it. Recommend the read. Great magic system, story and characters, and according to my b/f (who read all 3 books before me) he answers all questions!  Well since I've had a lot of Mistborn on the mind I've been doodling lots of little Mistborn related art.

Also I just started playing around in PaintTool Sai, and I have to say I kind of love it. I don't quite know my way around like I do in Photoshop, not sure if it has the same features to adjust colors and stuff. But it's much easier that Corel Painter, with similar effects, maybe a bit simpler brushes but easy to work with. I just need to figure out how to map the buttons on my stylus to control the brush size, then it would be perfect.

So to the art stuff. Elend Venture. Heir to House Venture. first Sai experiment. I actually am going to work on more with my backgrounds and composition. I had some great advice from my coworker and really want to start working that way. This one was just already near finished so I just completed it to put up. So DISCLAIMER his is not my attempt at using Sam's awesome advice. Actually all of this isn't. I'll start after this.

The following are more crappy sketches. Unfinished or even really un-thought about. Was just really submerged in the books and wanted to doodle some of the stuff I liked. I think I'll probably try and little Mistborn action animation for animation fun too. Just need to find the time, and need to read more of the books!! These will probably influence some of the stuff to come later.

This one's pretty horrible I didn't even finish because my neck started cramping hunching over a dining room table. OMG I'm spoiled I can't draw on anything that isn't a cintiq or adjustable drafting table or my neck/back muscles go out after like 10 minutes or so.

 These are some fossils. One is a doodle of Thomas & I back when we played Halo: Reach the second is of our Fable 3 character's family portrait. Never got to color but the joke was all 3 of our children, in the game, for some reason were black. Thomas kept accusing me of sleeping with our male nanny. Funny at the time. A bit late now. haha.

Fangirl rants.

Whoa. Been a while. I'm horrible at keeping up with this. Well we've been doing lots of overtime at work and I haven't really been making much outside of work. But here's a dump of what I have made since last time.. Well that is presentable. I have been playing around in my sketchbook, but haven't had time to scan in those scribbles, also randomly be animating little things that kind of fizzle...

Playing around in Flash. Not finishing clean-up on a little scribble animation I did... I miss paper for animation. but flash is so much easier, though the brush really doesn't look as awesome in motion as pencils. I also had no concept of lots of animation rules when I would animate on paper... Which was both good and bad. Good because I wouldn't care. Just draw and make the shit move, and throw caution to the wind. But now all I can see is how wrong stuff is, and just stressing over trying to get those right usually exhausts me and dissuades me from completion. Ugh. I'm gonna keep trying though. Deviant has .swfs now, so I should try and make some.

A while back I started trying to digitally paint again. Another thing that's kind of been neglected. I'm back to doing some studies to try and get back into it. So simple portraits and still life are probably on the way... Here's one study.

Okay the next three aren't really finished just sort of scribbles as I was messing around trying to get out of my usual art rut. So during some of my time I finally got around to reading the Hunger Games Trilogy, and maybe became a little obsessed. Har-har. It's back to my Harry Potter fanart days all over again. I'm going to probably have a whole lot more HG stuff until I burn this craze out of my system. I'm not even sure why I love it so much I blame Peeta. He's like fictional perfection, but not by Suzanne Collins just describing him with the word perfect all the time, a la Stephanie Meyer's method in Twilight. Thanks Suzanne for turning me back into a 17 yr old fangirl.

Yeah I'm not sure I like this one. We have been watching Game of Thrones se02, and I have to say I HATE the casting of Asha Greyjoy (who is named Yara in the show). OMG she is no where near as sexy, witty, or bad-ass as she is in the books. I mean I know she's hard to live up to but man they really made her dull. Took the shine right out of that character. I scribbled this but I hate it too.I guess she's Un-capturable.

Attack of the Brain Disease!

Damn. Sorry for the delay. I came down with a brain disease the other day. Okay that's not the medical term but there was definitely something amiss with my head. I woke up experiencing extreme dizziness/vertigo and nausea. But I really wanted to make sure everything was set for a send we had at work so I went to work that day. Which probably wasn't the best idea at the time, and staring at a big bright screen didn't help. Well needless to say as soon as I got home I had to keep the world from spinning by going to bed right away. Only to sleep for 20 hours!! I mean deep, completely paralyzed and removed from the world sleep. I couldn't respond to my alarm, I could barely even muster the power to call in. Also I was in and out of delusions or fever dreams it was really weird.

I called the nurse at my doctors office and she said I may have just had a bug or something that I burned out of my system with sleep. Who knows I call it the brain disease. Oh in better news I received my copy of Eric Canete's Encore! It's amazing over three hundred pages of awesome!!

Well in any case I didn't get as much drawing done those few nights.

We've started watching Jericho on Netflix. I never saw this show when it was on but it's pretty great I'm enjoying it. Especially Skeet Ulrich. Man that guy still looks good. I mean I thought he was hot since back in The Craft and Scream but he's still rockin' that dark horse look. Any ways threw this out in Flash.

unicorn studies

It's not really due till next Friday but I figured I'd go ahead and do some unicorn studies for my sketches today. I don't think I've ever drawn a unicorn before. Seriously. I mean I know I'm all about the dragons and mermaids, but unicorns.. not so much. Anywho. I think I'm also gonna start another blog for my geeky rants and raves about all the geek things that make me squeal or just inspire me. Lots of comic stuff and artists.
